FFVII FANART - Cityscape

Keeping in line with the portraits of Tseng I recently submitted, this is a touched-up version of a much older piece I found while going through my archives. This work started as a speed painting, where I did as much as I could in the space of around twenty minutes, so it's quite rough. Still, had fun doing it :)

It's been so long since I've posted and entry that I've pretty much forgotten how I used to format it. Oh well. This is just a portrait of Tseng that I revamped from an old work I did early last year as a gift for a friend. I did three different versions and decided to post all three on my DA account because I had fun doing them and thought each one had their own merits.

The preview images below link to their respective pages on DA. I'd love to know what you think and which of the three you prefer.

Not dead, though close to it. Too scared to check my flist at this point, I've let it go for so long. I'll be back and kicking if I can somehow get through this year (it's really down to the wire at this point). Oh life :'(

So many ideas, both in terms of art and writing, have been buzzing around in my head. I've actually filled out two artbooks with quick sketches and ideas. Can't wait till I'm actually able to do something with them.

K, we need to organise a skype/msn session sometime, yes?

I? Cannot stop watching this ad.

The one for campari red passion, that is. Am I the only one who finds it strangely hypnotic?

FANART (One Piece): ZORO

There's no title for this one yet, as I'm considering whether or not I should use it for the cover of a potential fancomic I have in mind (my first attempt at one).

Fandom: One Piece

Character: Zoro

Notes: the background is a manipulation, the character is painted. I started this work way back in January but had issues with Zoro's face and the background. It's been sitting at the top of my to-do list for some time, so it's a relief to finally be able to tick it off.

FANART (One Piece): "Through Glass Doors" (Sanji + Zoro)

Title: Through Glass Doors, or, as a friend kindly suggested, Murder Through the Glass Door.

Fandom: One Piece

Characters: Sanji, Zoro (though this may not be immediately evident)

Notes: This work is subpar, yet I'm so tired I fail to care overly much. The satisfaction of actually getting a work done is enough for me, since I haven't had the time to do so due to uni. I may revamp it later on, because while I'm not overjoyed with the execution, I rather like the concept.

As for the potential story behind the piece? I had something in mind, but I think I'll leave it to the mind of the viewer ^^

Will cross-post to communities when I'm not utterly exhausted.

EDIT: AND BEFORE I FORGET, A QUESTION AND A REQUEST: I'm considering trying my hand at a short fancomic at some point in the future.

First, the question: left to right, or right to left? I have no preference when it comes to reading, but I'd be curious to know what others think.

Second, the request: I haven't actually read the manga past the first few chapters. I'd like to have a look at a few reference images of how Sanji and Zoro fight from the manga (both against each other as well as against other opponents). Is there a kind soul out there who could link me to some? The more the merrier. It would be very much appreciated ^^

For the textures: credit goes to shadowh3 for the wood texture, gild_a_stock for the frosted glass and cloaks for the cloth texture in the background.

Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece, nor do I make any profit by creating fanworks which derive from it.

Hypothetical situation: Say I want to try my hand at drawing a fancomic/doujinshi.

The question: Should I go left to right, or right to left?

I have no preference when it comes to reading (unless the art's been "flopped" or mirrored, but that's a different story). Since I've never had a go at any sort of sequential art, it will be equally (un)comfortable either way.

I scream, with laughter yes, but also PAIN.

I don't usually spam this journal with posts of this nature, but this...just. I have no words (if only the author in question had suffered from the same affliction *weeps*)

I've created another journal solely for my honours thesis this year: d_thesisising

My thesis topic, as it stands, is still extremely vague and liable to change drastically in the future. Regardless, if I were forced to sum it up in two words, it would be "Fanfiction" and "Race". I'm interested in the consumption of Japanese cultural texts by western fans, with possible issues including but not limited to: the cultural appropriation of the Other/Other cultures, the link between race and slash (or possibly pornography?), fanfiction as fantasy (? according to some) and how the real life politics of race fits into this, analysing race in the canon, fanworks and meta-text, somehow linking it back to the dialogic formation of identity that is often associated with online fandom...that's a tentative list, and I'm not even sure whether some of those points were coherent (it is 2am over here after all *yawns*)

Anyway, I will be archiving links and resources, keeping back up copies and be generally moping about unproductively or screaming in panic (probably both, simultaneously.)

People dropping by every now and then with opinions, suggestions, any useful links, or just to provide moral support would be hugely appreciated <3 (The latter in particular perhaps: help me recuperate my estranged relationship with sanity!)

Incoherence: end.
